What is a Trust?

Trust is a legal estate planning document that lets you decide how your assets should be managed and distributed—both during your lifetime and after your death. It involves three key roles:

  • The Grantor (you, the person creating the Trust)

  • The Trustee (the person or institution managing the assets)

  • The Beneficiaries (those who will receive the assets)

Trusts are commonly used to avoid probate, provide for loved ones, set conditions on inheritances, and ensure your wishes are followed with more privacy and control than a Will alone.
